AFETA was honoured to represent Singapore at the 2025 Asia Aquatic Rehabilitation Forum held on 6 September 2025 at the SNU Siheung Campus Convention Center in Korea. This international policy forum brought together key stakeholders to discuss the development of public infrastructure and professional training pathways in the field of aquatic rehabilitation.

AFETA President Vikki Jonied was invited as a keynote speaker, delivering a well-received presentation titled:

"Singapore's Aquatic Rehabilitation: Infrastructure & Workforce"

In her address, Vikki outlined the current state of aquatic rehabilitation in Singapore — highlighting our existing infrastructure, training models, and the challenges faced in scaling both accessibility and workforce capacity. She also shared Singapore’s ongoing efforts to strengthen professional pathways for aquatic fitness, therapy, and rehabilitation practitioners.

Signing the MOU: Regional Collaboration Across 5 Nations

A major highlight of the forum was the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by representatives from Singapore, Korea, India, Indonesia, and Malaysia. The agreement aims to:

  • Share knowledge and research in aquatic fitness and rehabilitation

  • Jointly develop professional standards and certification pathways

  • Promote the mutual use of recognised certification marks

  • Encourage exchange programmes, regional training, and policy alignment

  • Establish a continuous system for international cooperation

AFETA proudly signed on behalf of Singapore, affirming our commitment to elevating the standards and accessibility of aquatic rehabilitation not just locally, but across Asia.

The signing ceremony was a powerful symbol of unity and shared vision among all participating countries.

Building Regional Bonds

In addition to the formal sessions, the forum also offered opportunities for cultural exchange and professional bonding.

While AFETA’s primary role was to represent Singapore’s aquatic policy and training landscape, the rest of the team attended the conference for exposure, gaining valuable insights into emerging trends, academic research, and international best practices.

AFETA’s Continued Role in Shaping Aquatic Rehab in Asia

This event marks a pivotal step forward for AFETA in becoming a leading regional voice in aquatic fitness, exercise, and rehabilitation. Through this platform, we continue to:

  • Advocate for sustainable aquatic infrastructure in public and private spaces

  • Strengthen professional development and certification models

  • Collaborate with like-minded organisations to raise industry standards

AFETA remains committed to pushing boundaries, connecting communities, and advancing the aquatic profession.
