Beware of Aqua Fitness Scams: Protect Yourself Before You Sign Up

We’ve recently been alerted to a scam involving fake aqua fitness programmes circulating online — and it’s important that our community stays informed and protected.

What’s Happening?

Scammers are posing as legitimate aqua fitness instructors or organisations. They offer unbelievably cheap memberships or “limited-time” packages to lure victims into paying upfront.

These scams typically operate through:

  • Instagram or Facebook advertisements

  • Telegram or WhatsApp group invites

  • Online sign-up forms or websites

Once payment is made, nothing happens. The account disappears or goes silent, only to reappear under a different name targeting new individuals.

🚩 Red Flags to Watch Out For:

  • No clear contact person or company information

  • Pressure tactics like “sign up fast” or “slots filling up!”

  • No schedule, venue info, or valid credentials shown

  • Payment via personal PayNow or bank transfers only

✅ How to Stay Safe

Before registering for any aqua fitness programme:

  1. Verify the organiser – Confirm if they’re listed with a recognised body like AFETA – Aquatic Fitness, Exercise & Therapy Association

  2. Ask for credentials – Certified instructors will be transparent about their qualifications

  3. Check the venue – Contact the pool directly to confirm if classes are taking place

  4. Avoid upfront bulk payments unless you're dealing with a trusted business

  5. Report suspicious accounts to relevant platforms immediately
